OFF THE BEATEN PASS - 30 YEARS ON MARIAS PASS

This 28-page full-color 6” x 9” booklet contains over
50 color photographs, following the Burlington Northern
[former Great Northern] rail line through Marias Pass
in the Montana Rockies. The flow of the booklet starts with
Whitefish at MP1217.5 and proceeds eastward approximately
95-miles to Browning [MP 1123.9], which could be considered
the end of Marias Pass and the beginning of the Montana Hi-Line. There is a two-page spread in the middle
to cover Summit; take notice of a rare picture taken
line-side of a westbound train exiting Tunnel #5 in Bad Rock Canyon and see what the GN NW3 no. 181
at Whitefish looked like before it was restored
to Great Northern livery.  Of course,
it is not possible to cover in 28 pages 30-years of images;
there is nice balance mix of old and new. An extensive
detailed history of Marias Pass and commentary are covered in other publications –the pages of this book take the viewer on a trip “Off the Beaten Pass.”
