Milwaukee Road in Montana - 2024
50-Year Anniversary of Little Joes in Montana
“Little Joe” E70 may be considered the
quintessential example of mainline electric
operations in Montana. Built in 1948 for Russian
railroads - after the Cold War embargo, the
Milwaukee purchased 9 units adapting them
for use in the Rocky Mountains. Crews originally
called them “Joe Stalin’s” for the Soviet leader
later renaming them “Little Joe’s”
The EF4 Class 2-D+D-2 motors were rated at 5,000 hp
The E70 was the first unit purchased and one of the
last to run when electric operations ceased in June 1974.
This full-color calendar features 12 full page monthly images
plus 12 smaller inset photos along with a brief photo history of
"Little Joe" E70 at Deer Lodge.

I have decided that I need to close up shop with
Railroads of Montana.
After 25-years, it time to retire. I will keep the web site going
for awhile until it appears that no one is using it.
Check out the small number of remaining
publications for sale

I only printed a small number of calendars
So...when they are gone - they are gone.
