GREAT NORTHERN’S KETTLE FALLS, WA BRANCH
This 28-page full-color 6” x 9” booklet contains over 35 photographs as a companion to the informative text tracing
the history of Great Northern’s Kettle Falls Branch
Spokane to Chewelah.
From its beginnings as Daniel [D.C.] Corbin’s
Spokane Falls & Northern in 1889,
these rails north to the resource rich
Southern British Columbia have been
vital to the region’s development on both sides
of the border. Note on pages 9 & 10,
images of two “Doodlebugs” nos. 2339 and 2313
sitting at the original Marcus depot
before being drowned by the backwaters
of Grand Coulee Dam.
Not be missed are the photos of the last [and only]
passenger train from July 14, 1969 on
the Hillyard to Republic Special.
Images of the excursion train passing the boxcar “station”
at Grand Forks, B.C, crossing
the Curlew Bridge and exiting the only tunnel
on the line are priceless.
